#1: TOMMY TD TICKER

Tommy Stevens is chasing a few records as the Saskatchewan Roughriders prepare to meet the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday at Princess Auto Stadium. He is only one touchdown shy of tying the CFL record for six-pointers by a quarterback in a season. The Ottawa REDBLACKS’ Caleb Evans rushed for a record 16 majors in 2022. Stevens’ next rushing TD also will tie him with George Reed for the most majors along the grounds by a Roughrider in a season. The iconic No. 34 set his long-standing mark in 1968. And there’s this: Stevens is only three TDs shy of the Roughriders’ single-season record. Ken Carpenter scored 18 times in 1955.

#2: REIGNING CFL KINGS RETURN TO PRINCESS AUTO STADIUM

The Roughriders are poised to visit Princess Auto Stadium for the first time since Nov. 16, when the Green and White registered a 25-17 Grey Cup victory over the Montreal Alouettes.

Quick note: Of the 45 players who dressed for the Roughriders on that fine day, 29 remain with the team. Turnover rate: 35.6 per cent. Such is life in the ever-changing world of professional sports. As much as the incumbent players and coaches savour their memories of 2025, their concentration is devoted to 2026. Period.

#3: A VICTORY WOULD BE SWEEP

The Roughriders are hoping to sweep the two-game, home-and-home set with Winnipeg for the ninth time since the Labour Day Rematch became a scheduling staple in 2004. The Roughriders have won the Labour Day Classic and the return engagement in Winnipeg in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2025. Last year’s Roughriders were the first Grey Cup-winning team to sweep the set. Saskatchewan and Winnipeg split the two games in 2007 and 2013.
